Certifications
If you have been in the industry for a time as a planner or supplier you may consider applying for the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) program. MPI NENY sponsors classes to study for the CMP exam. We have a great track record of candidates passing the exam after taking these classes.
On another level is MPI’s Certificate in Meeting Management program (CMM). This five-day intensive is designed for meeting professionals who want to be more strategic in their organizations or start their own businesses.
MPI NENY currently offers a scholarship for the CMP program, and plans to start a scholarship for the CMM program in the new future.
Professional Development Tools
MPI members, both planners and suppliers, can also participate in the Professional Pathways skills assessment program that includes 160 skills in 13 Skill Families. This survey helps to determine where gaps may be in your skills at meeting planning and provides suggestions on what steps to take to increase your knowledge. Professional Pathways Skills Assessment
The CultureActive Tool for MPI members helps one improve their ability to understand and communicate with other cultures – improving cultural competence and acquisition of skills. These sills are critical for our diverse society. CultureActive Tool
Students will benefit from attending monthly educational meetings and gaining further information about the meetings industry on local, national, and international levels. Students also have access to the MPI Student Community.
